Back in Osaka I saw alot of traditional Kabuki where the musicians were always hidden, so having an actor actually become the instrument flips the whole fourth-wall concept around. The modernization here sounds less about watering down tradition and more about proving how adaptable these old forms can be when someone trusts the source material enough to take real risks.
