New York City Ballet's newest cowboy, Ryan Tomash, steps into "The Art of the Fugue"
While in Denmark, I had the unexpected pleasure of bumping into Ryan Tomash, the Royal Danish Ballet principal who recently joined New York City Ballet as a soloist. He was in Copenhagen visiting friends, only to find himself called to fill in for an injured dancer in Alexei Ratmansky’s new “The Art of the Fugue,” where he will début on Friday Nov. 7. It was his first time working with Ratmansky. Tomash has already made a strong impression at NYCB, notably in his début there, in “Western Symphony.” I sat down with him after a performance to ask him about this new chapter in his career, and how he got here.
