In 2016, I wrote a piece analyzing several moments from Christopher Wheeldon's ballet "The Winter's Tale," and showing how Wheeldon effectively translates Shakespeare's play into movement. The Winter’s Tale—an odd, shifting story of jealousy, loss, and unexpected redemption— isn’t the most obvious choice for a ballet. But Christopher Wheeldon finds in its magical turns something well suited to dance. In his version, a gesture can plant doubt, and a statue can come to life.
The ballet comes to American Ballet Theatre next week. Link to article here.
