Copenhagen
I’m currently in Copenhagen, working on a couple of pieces, one on Alexei Ratmansky’s new ballet for the Royal Danish Ballet, and the other on that company’s new plans for the Bournonville repertoire. It has been fascinating to watch rehearsals and do interviews with people in the company. But also to walk around the city and visit some museums. Copenhagen has a special atmosphere. It’s intimate, gray, friendly but not too much, understated. I would say that, at this time of year, with the cold, wet weather, it is a place that inspires some introspection and a touch of melancholy. But the interiors are warm, and often full of color. They hold you close. Here are a few of the things I’ve seen in the last days.
